چکیده

Disordered fcc ~face-centered-cubic! @100# fiber-textured CoPt thin films with thicknesses of 20–40 nm were deposited on a nonmagnetic sputtered MgO seed layer with and without a Ag intermediate layer. These were subsequently annealed at 600–750 °C for 5–10 min using rapid thermal annealing ~RTA!. The structural variants were determined to coexist in the in-plane and normal to the plane directions after the RTA process. The MgO underlayer without the intermediate layer revealed strong in-plane anisotropy by magnetic hysteresis measurement. Selected area diffraction ~SAD! by TEM and XRD measurements for these samples confirmed the preferential growth of in-plane variants of c axis compared to the perpendicular direction. High remanence and coercive squareness (S*) were obtained due to strong in-plane texture and especially due to exchange coupling among the grains. Evidence for this was provided by DM curves. Initial magnetization curves for samples annealed above 600 °C, showed the possibility of assembled single domain or domain pinning mechanism but with negligible free wall motion inside of the grains. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-8979~00!61008-3#

Atomic Ordering and Coercivity Mechanism in FePt and CoPt Polycrystalline Thin Films

40 nm thick CoPt and FePt films were prepared on oxidized Si substrates with 10 nm MgO underlayers. The maximum coercivity ( ) for CoPt films was found to be 10 kOe after annealing at 700 C for 20–30 minutes (min). Structural analysis showed a significant amount of FCC phase as well as the ordered L10 phase in these films. FePt films showed an abrupt increase of ordered volume fraction and in t...

The Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy of CoPt/Au Multilayer Films

We have studied the magnetic properties of Au (2 nm)/Co50Pt50 (3 nm)/Au (2 nm) multilayer films prepared on amorphous Al2O3/Si and (0 0 1) MgO substrates. The as-deposited films on both substrates are magnetically soft with an FCC structure and exhibit a perpendicular anisotropy. After annealing at 500 °C, the sample on the Al2O3/Si substrate has become magnetically isotropic but the sample on ...

Correlations between morphology, crystal structure and magnetization of epitaxial cobalt-platinum films grown with pulsed laser ablation

The effects of growth rate (Gr), deposition temperature (Td), film thickness (tF ), and substrate induced strain (ǫ) on morphological, crystallographic and magnetic characteristics of equiatomic CoPt epitaxial films synthesized with pulsed laser deposition (PLD) are investigated. The (001) oriented single crystal substrates of MgO, SrTiO3 and LaAlO3 provide different degree of epitaxial strain ...

Magnetic Properties of Nanostructured CoPt and FePt Thin Films

Polycrystalline MgO underlayer films lead to different preferred orientations of 10 CoPt and FePt films after the annealing process, depending on the thickness of 10 films. 10 films with a thickness greater than 20 nm revealed mostly 10 [100] fiber texture and consequently in-plane anisotropy as determined by magnetic hysteresis. Strong perpendicular anisotropy due to the 10 [001] fiber texture...

Magneto-optical spectra of long range chemically ordered FePd(001) alloy films

The occurrence of chemical ordering can have a dramatic influence on structural, electronic, and magnetic properties in many materials systems. Examples of recent interest are binary metallic alloy systems such as CoPt, FePt, and FeAu, where strong interdependencies between magnetic and magneto-optical properties and the degree of long range chemical ordering have been observed. Near the equiat...
